Project:
Rufford Close, Chesterfield
Scope of Works:
The project involved the complete demolition of 4 residential dwellings that had been built on top of a burning coal seam that produced dangerously elevated levels of carbon monoxide. The properties, 2 pairs of semi detached houses had never been occupied since completion of the new build following carbon monoxide detectors raising the alarm.
The decision was taken to completely demolish the properties to enable a specialist contractor to deal with the coal seam beneath ground level. The properties were fully stripped out by operatives wearing carbon monoxide alarms and half face respirators. Due to the close proximity of neighbouring properties, each end gable needed to be demolished by hand method to prevent the demolition rubble from breaching the site boundaries.
Programme: Works were completed over 2 phases with an overall duration of 6 weeks from Commencement.
